the staging does not seek to explain things directly.
It invites the audience to witness a moment of transition, where the garment becomes a tool of passage and where identity reveals itself without ever becoming fixed.
It deliberately leaves part of it in the shadows, remaining faithful to the idea that the connection between the inner self and the outer self always remains to be constructed.
Between – proper noun
1. An artistic and fashion project that explores the notion of connection.
2. Refers to the intermediate space between the outer self, visible and socially constructed, and the inner self, concealed, restrained, and awaiting emergence.
3. In Between, the garment functions as a threshold, a surface of friction where these two dimensions enter into tension without ever fully resolving.
4. Created for the sixteenth edition of the "De Fil en Aiguille" fashion festival, and more specifically for its competition, this connection is placed under constraint and rooted in the theme "Du fil à retordre" ("a hard nut to crack"), understood here as an obstacle to move through and a tension that must be sustained.
The thread is understood here as a bond.
An invisible yet constant bond, connecting the inner self to the outer self, linking what lies hidden to what is revealed.
The act of "twisting the thread" is not conceived as a negative constraint, but rather as a process of transformation.
It refers to the act of bringing forth what initially appears inaccessible: stepping beyond one's comfort zone, unveiling an inner identity, and accepting that the path is no longer linear but unstable, at times even drifting.
To twist the thread is to embrace tension. It is to compel this bond to change, to bend and reshape itself until it discovers a form that truly reflects who we are.
Once twisted, the thread does not break.. it adapts.
The French expression « du fil à retordre » is often associated with difficulty or psychological hardship.
Within the context of this project, this interpretation is deliberately reversed.
Difficulty becomes a necessary passage. Resistance becomes a condition for emergence.
